MARQUETTE, MI- Sylvia A. Hainstock, 87, of Marquette, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, during the eclipse, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice at Mill Creek Assisted Living.

Sylvia was born on September 20, 1936 in Beulah, MI to William S. and Mildred (Mast) Harwood. She graduated in 1955 from Benzie Central High School and went on to attend Golden West College for Nursing in Huntington Beach, CA.

Sylvia married Robert T. Hainstock on February 5, 1954 in Benzonia, MI.

Sylvia worked as a LPN at Superior Health Haven in Munising, MI and Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette. She was avid member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Harvey, MI where she helped organize the church memorial garden and was a member of the altar guild. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting and knitting.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Echo Brodersen of Marquette, Steven (Lisa) Hainstock of Leslie, MI and Michael (Kim) Hainstock of Ishpeming; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Luella Davis of Marquette; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mildred Harwood; husband, Robert T. Hainstock; son, Robert L. Hainstock; and her brothers, William and The Reverend James Harwood.

Sylvia’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, April 20, 2024 Prince of Peace Lutheran Church starting at 1 p.m. until the time of the memorial service in the church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Alex LaChapelle officiating. Inurnment will take place following the service in the church memorial gardens with an ice cream social to immediately follow in the church hall.
