MARQUETTE, MI – Susan Jane (Peterson) Pohlman, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024, in Marquette, Michigan at the age of 84. Born on February 13, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sue lived a life marked by joy, music, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community.

Raised in Minneapolis, Sue Graduated From Washburn High School in 1958, and after, sought higher education at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, where she crossed paths with the love of her life. She married Doug in August 1961, and together they embarked on a journey of service that saw them touching the lives of many through their ministry work. Sue became the melodic heartbeat of every congregation, serving loyally as the church organist wherever their path led from Winter, WI, to Superior, WI, Frederic, WI, and ultimately Marquette, MI, in 1983.

Driven by a passion for music that began at the age of four, Sue honed her skills at the piano, Gifted in accompanying choirs, bands and teaching music to others, her talents brought a harmonious backdrop to many family game nights, an activity she thoroughly enjoyed alongside her husband and children. Sue’s love didn’t stop at music; she had a green thumb and cherished time spent in her garden. Moreover, she relished the outdoors and was a bird watcher, embracing the beauty of the Upper Peninsula which she called home.

Sue’s zest for life was infectious, and she was often described as fun-loving and joyful. Adventure was a constant companion, and her happy-go-lucky nature made her the epicenter of warmth and laughter, traits that forged friendships at every turn. She possessed a sharp wit and an impressive knack for games like cribbage, testifying to her lively spirit and mental acuity. Her time at Norlite Nursing Home was highlighted by her role as Resident President, further cementing her status as a cherished leader and friend.

Her memory will live on through her loving family. Sue is survived by her children: Pam (Sri) Emani of Boston, Massachusetts, Laura (Mark) Ewart of Dallas, Texas, Scott (Helen) Pohlman of London, England, and Daniel (Pamela) Pohlman of Marquette, Michigan. Her joy was multiplied by her grandchildren: Sean Scott, Sky Scott, Brittany (Brett) Hansen, Rachel (Conner) Tyler, Joseph Pohlman, Daniel Pohlman, Anna Pohlman, Senia Pohlman, and Alexander Pohlman. Further warmth was brought to her later years by her six great-grandchildren.

Sue also leaves behind her loved ones including her brother, Robert (Geri) Childress, and sister, Alice (Gary) Kramer, along with several nieces and nephews who will forever cherish the moments spent under the mirthful glow of her presence.

She was greeted in her passing by her parents, her beloved husband of 59 years, Doug, and joins them in serene repose.

Sue’s life was a testament to the joys of sharing love, humor, and music with the world. A private family graveside service will be held to celebrate the legacy she leaves behind a symphony of memories that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
