Mary Margaret Sloan

She was born to Adrian and Betty Beauregard in Detroit in 1944. Her siblings are John Beauregard, James (Jimbo) Beauregard, Billy Beauregard, Carol Ann Starner (Ken) and Michael Beauregard (Pam). Her career in education got its start at St. Rita’s High School, Marygrove, and Wayne State University. After joining with Edward, the love of her life, the pair moved to the Upper Peninsula to their log home on Big Creek which was designed and built by her brothers. Here she cultivated lifelong friendships with her Lunch Bunch. She loved cooking, quilting and gardening. She utilized her incredible talent for helping others in the later part of her career as the Director of Community Schools in Marquette. Here she helped many students improve their lives with literacy, high school completion, GED and English as a Second Language.

She is survived by Edward James Sloan, her loving husband of almost 60 years, and by her two children, Ed Sloan (Heather) and Brook Randell (Kent). She was so very proud of her three grandchildren, Eddie, Iris and Sparrow Jane.

She had a beautiful way of staying calm and graceful while fiercely and generously caring for her family and friends. Ever since her childhood she has enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on the St. Mary’s River. She was at her happiest when it was overflowing with kids and dogs, boat rides and bonfires, great food and love. Mary Margaret will be sorely missed by many but we feel certain that we will continue to be surrounded and inspired by her joyful compassionate spirit.

Friends may call at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday, April 20, beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. A reception will follow.
