ISHPEMING, MI – Duane A. Potila of Ishpeming Michigan, age 80, passed away at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility on Saturday, April 6, 2024.

Duane was born in Negaunee on December 24, 1943, a son of the late Martha (Hintsala) and Albert Potila. He grew up in National Mine and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Duane was a Carpenter and worked on Isle Royale National Park from 1975 to 2006 when he retired.

Duane loved his country music and tying flies. Enjoyed spending time with his family watching sports especially NASCAR, Detroit Lions, Red Wings, and Tigers.

Duane is survived by his son Dean Potila (DeeDee) and Daughter Dawne Potila, grandsons Dean Potila Jr. (Kelley), Dione Potila (Meghan), great grandson Nolan Potila and stepbrothers Steve (Joan) LeClair, and Tom Laitanen, stepsister Mary Ellen (Casey) Smith, sister in laws Patti Potila and Lynn Potila Walimaa along with many nieces and nephews and numerous close friends.

He was preceded by his parents, brothers Dale, Dennis and Doug Potila, stepbrothers Mark LeClair, Greg, LeClair and Gary LeClair, stepsister Carol, infant sister Dawne Potila.

Per Duane’s wishes, cremation will take place with a family celebration of life in the summer.
