NEGAUNEE, MI – Dorothy L. Seppanen, 97, of Negaunee, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 2, 2024 at Eastwood Nursing Center with her loving family at her side.
Dorothy was born September 27, 1926 in Pawhuska, OK, and graduated from Monett High School in Missouri, Class of 1944. She married John A. Seppanen and together they raised their family in various cities in Michigan, with over 40 of those years in Negaunee. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper and accountant at Northern Natural Gas Co., retiring in 1990.
Mrs. Seppanen was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, as well as the VA Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW Auxiliary. She was a longtime volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Negaunee Senior Center, Lakeview School, Eastwood Nursing Center, and many others.
When she wasn’t volunteering her time locally, she enjoyed knitting, needle point, crafting, and reading.
Surviving are her two daughters, Cecelia Dompierre of Marquette and Regina Bergh of Montana; two sons, Greg (Carol Henry) Seppanen of Marquette and Dennis (Julie) Seppanen of Florida; five grandchildren: Renee (Glen) Wiczorek, Erika (Scott) Kaler, Amanda Treloar, CJ (Anna) Berghausen and Britney (Bryan) Benz; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friend, Peggy Bergman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John A. Seppanen in 2015; her sister, Rose Marie (Francis) Heimburger; two brothers, Robert (Barbara) and Jim Malaska; former sister-in-law, Ruth Malaska; and son-in-law, Francis Dompierre.
Dorothy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Eastwood Nursing Center for their compassionate care provided over the past few years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 5th at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the St. Paul School Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Dorothy’s memory to the Negaunee Senior Center.
