Stephen J. Chipman

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Stephen James Chipman, 77, of Colorado Springs died on February 22, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.

Steve was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on May 1, 1946. He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1964. He attended Northern Michigan University and graduated with majors in biology and psychology. He was employed by El Paso County Department of Social Services and Rocky Mountain Heath Services as a caseworker for a total of 41 years.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed backpacking, hiking, camping, skiing, golfing, fishing and climbing Colorado's fourteeners (37 of them). Steve and Betty made yearly trips to Upper Michigan where they connected with their extended family. They travelled to Hawaii, Mexico, Ixtapa, and made Spring break trips to Anna Maria Island, Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty (Johnson), daughter Holly (Nick) Goraczkowski, son Michael Chipman, grandsons Holden Goraczkowski, Davis Chipman, Alex Chipman and granddaughter Zoe Goraczkowski. He is also survived by his brother Roger Chipman, brothers-in-law Steve Wisniewski, Don Williams, David Johnson, Jeff (Pam) Johnson, Randy (Melanie) Johnson, sisters-in-law Jolene Van Den Elzen and Jean Johnson as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Minnie Chipman and sisters-in-law Denise Chipman, JoAnn Williams and Linda Wisniewski.

He was a caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. His family and friends came first in his life. He will be greatly missed. In accordance with Steve's wishes, there will be no funeral services. A memorial get together is planned for a later date.
