Ruth Ellen Baldwin

Ruth E. Baldwin

BEAVER GROVE, MI – Ruth Ellen Baldwin, a beacon of love and care, passed away on March 23, 2024 in the loving comforting care of her family at the age of 90 in Marquette, Michigan.

Born on April 22, 1933, in Bagley, Michigan, to parents Lauren Lloyd and Elsie (Hendrickson) Hornada, Ruth’s warmth and nurturing spirit were evident from an early age. As she moved to Marquette during her childhood, she grew roots that would deepen and spread through the community over the years.

Ruth’s life was a testament to devotion, both to her family and her professional life. On July 16, 1949, she married her beloved husband, Richard Baldwin, with whom she shared a remarkable journey of 75 years. Together, they built a life founded on mutual love for children, animals, and the simple joys of nature. Ruth was a cherished homemaker and, in her later years, brought her organizational talents and compassionate nature to her role as an Office Administrator for B & G Heating and Plumbing.

She was known affectionately as “Dr. Ruth” among her family members for her uncanny ability to always have the right medical advice at hand, aided by her latest medical book. An avid reader, Ruth’s thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. Her love for family history and genealogy allowed her to weave stories of the past into the rich tapestry of the present, connecting generations.

Ruth’s green thumb brought beauty to the world through her beautiful flower gardens. She and Richard were the quintessential handy couple, always ready to tackle repairs or lend a hand with home and maintenance projects. Their home was a sanctuary for birds, with feeders that welcomed winged visitors throughout the seasons, much to their delight. Her commitment to cleanliness and order was legendary, and her family knew they could count on her for assistance with any task, big or small. Ruth was, above all, a caregiver her heart and home were always open to anyone in need.

Ruth’s legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Richard, and their loving children: Gary (Nancy) Baldwin, Gregg (Corinne) Baldwin, and Christine (Dale) Hamari, all of Marquette. She was a proud grandmother to Beth (Stuart) Johnson, Christie Freir, Paula (Jerry) Sides, Mathew Baldwin, Brian (Jaimie) Hamari, Erin (Mike) Speck, Katie (Dan) Beerman, Lucas Anderson, Amanda Baldwin, and Beth (Kyle) Roberts. Her joy multiplied with each of her 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Anderson, her siblings Lorene (Oliver) Harsila, Betty (Don) Henderson, Helen Hornada, Judy (Mike) Housler, Marvin (Mary Lee) Hornada, and John Hornada.

Ruth’s life was a lesson in unconditional love, unwavering support, and the beauty of a life well-lived. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, a family fortified by her strength, and a community enriched by her presence.

Honoring Ruth’s wishes, private funeral services will be held. In Lieu of flowers memorials may directed to the Trillium House. Her spirit, generosity, and the echoes of her laughter will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
