MARQUETTE, MI- Rebecca S. Kuehl, age 74, of Marquette, passed away Monday February 26, 2024 at UP Health System Marquette.
Known by family and friends as “Becca,” she was born March 12, 1949, in Galesburg, Illinois, a daughter of Theodore and Rosalyn (Kanan) Szerlong. Raised in Galesburg, she graduated from Galesburg High School with the Class of 1967. She continued her education at Illinois Wesleyan University, graduating in 1971 with a degree in elementary education, and while there was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Armed with her teaching credentials, Becca eagerly began teaching elementary students in the Glen Ellyn School District.
During the early years of her teaching career, she met her future husband, Darvin Kuehl. Becca and “Dar” were united in marriage on November 18, 1977. Once married, Becca left her teaching career to work in her husband’s logistics business, DK Transportation Corporation. In 1980, the couple relocated to Florida where they became avid sailors, making their home on a sailboat. A few years later, another move was made, this time to North Carolina where they built a home on the side of a mountain. Due to various vacations to the Upper Peninsula, the couple fell in love with the region and eventually moved to the Marquette area where she continued to work in the logistics business until her death.
Becca and Dar enjoyed traveling and both were members of a Packard club where they enjoyed restoring old cars and traveling with the club to various shows and conferences. Becca was known for her talented cooking skills, loved dogs, had a great laugh, and possessed an adventurous nature. She was very knowledgeable and was not one bit intimidated by any project of any size. She and Dar were a great team and lived life doing most everything together.
Becca is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dar; her brother, Tim (Pam) Szerlong of Lake Forest, IL; niece, Amy (fiance, Bryan Berend) Szerlong and nephew, Todd (Megan) Szerlong all of Chicago, IL.
Becca was preceded in death by her parents.
Honoring her request, no services will be scheduled.
