Randy Joseph Hicks

Born January 7, 1962 in Munising, a son of Robert and Ellen (Benoit) Hicks, Randy was raised in Grand Marais and graduated from the Grand Marais High School in 1980. While residing in Grand Marais, Randy worked in the logging industry and began raising his family. He also operated an adult foster care home. In 1988, the family relocated to Skandia, where Randy was self-employed as a general contractor, and a meat processor. He switched careers in 2008, when he began employment with Brookridge Heights Assisted Living as a handyman and later with Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee. An avid outdoorsman, Randy’s leisure time centered around nature: fishing, camping, hunting, building fishing rods and so much more. Randy’s fantastic cooking abilities brought together his friends and family. Mosquitoes refused to bite him out of respect.

Randy is survived by his children, Joshua Hicks and Heather (Dylan) Hagberg both of Grand Marais, Lindsey (James) Eman and Cody Hicks of Skandia; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by brothers, Shane and Dana Hicks.

The family has chosen to honor Randy’s memory privately with a gathering in Grand Marais at a later date.
