Mary E. Conery

CHANNING, MI – Mary E. (Tuominen) Conery “Gma,” 90, of Channing, passed away on March 2nd, 2024.

Mary was born on February 24, 1934, at the Harvey family farm in Humboldt, MI, to parents Reino J. Tuominen and Elizabeth (Harvey) Tuominen.

Mary’s greatest love in her life was her family. She had five children, who gave her ten grandchildren, who gave her fourteen great-grandchildren. She was an avid baker and is well known throughout the community for her breads, bars, and other sweet treats. Mary was the world’s best cheerleader at her grands and great-grands athletic events. After retirement Mary volunteered for many years at North Dickinson County Schools and will be well remembered for reading to elementary students and demanding shoes be tied. Mary’s home was a refuge from the world’s stresses, a place where family and friends would gather during holidays and events and were forbidden to ever leave hungry.

Mary is survived by her siblings, Martha (Paul) Snyder, William (Nanette) Tuominen, and Betty (Timothy) Airaudi; children, Ronda Conery, Christine Conery, Ronald (Amy) Conery, Lynette (Larry) Lorenz, and Dennis (Kelly) Conery; her grandchildren, Nick (Tolisa) Conery, Jacob (Elizabeth) Conery, Becca (Nic) Opperman, Jacky (Jordan) McDonald, Taylor (Codell) Story, Sarah Conery, Sean (Chelsey) Conery, Sam Conery, and Stephanie (Sam) Schumacher; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie, Nathan, Cody, Jacob, Nora, Luca, Megan, Sean, Carson, Chloe, Brandon, Emma, and Lucas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald J. “Fats” Conery; sisters, Carrie (Robert) Emanuelson, Susan (Reino) Hintsala, and Nancy Faye Tuominen; brother, John P. Tuominen and granddaughter Megan Connery.

A Celebration of Life for Mary will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Sagola Community Building on Sunday, March 10th.
