Mary Ann Huebner

Mary Ann Huebner

MARQUETTE, MI – Our beloved matriarch, Mary Ann Huebner, 82, entered eternal life on Tuesday afternoon, March 12, 2024, at UP Health System-Marquette. She was born on September 21, 1941, in Marquette, Michigan, to the late Carl H. and Anna (Hokanson) Carlson. She grew up in Marquette and was a 1959 graduate of Graveraet High School.

On October 22, 1960, Mary Ann married the love of her life, Thomas Huebner. Their love had roots that ran deep, back to the shores of Lake Superior where, at the ages of four and nine, Mary Ann and Tom first met. Little did they know then that their paths would intertwine again, leading them to build a life and a home together. Starting a family in Lower Michigan, they soon realized that their hearts belonged elsewhere. They returned to Marquette to lay down their roots and raise their family in the town they both cherished.

Mary Ann began her career as a teller at Capac Savings Bank in Capac, MI. Upon returning to Marquette, she continued her work as a teller at Northern Michigan Bank and later transitioned to a customer service role at SEMCO Energy, where she retired after over 20 years of dedicated service.

From her youthful days in bowling leagues to her love for baking, reading, and puzzles, Mary Ann found joy in the simple pleasures of life. However, her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by her family, whom she loved dearly. Mary Ann’s kitchen was the heart of her home, where she would often be found cooking up delicious meals and hosting gatherings with open arms and a warm smile. Her selflessness knew no bounds, always putting the needs of others before her own. Whether it was blueberry picking, baking pies, cookie decorating, or making applesauce, Mary Ann’s love for her family was evident in every moment shared together, including attending sporting events for three generations, cheering on her loved ones with enthusiasm.

Mary Ann was proud of her Swedish heritage and was an active member of Vasa Order of America Superior Lodge No. 423 for 43 years, where she wore many hats, including Assistant Secretary, District Secretary, Treasurer, and Grand Lodge Deputy. She became involved in Vasa after a trip to meet family in Sweden. Her dedication to the organization was evident, and her fellow members regarded her with deep respect, acknowledging her multifaceted contributions and expressing their profound loss at her passing.

She is survived by her loving husband for over 63 years, Thomas Huebner of Marquette; children, Debbi Middleditch of Munising, Joan (Bruce) Gauthier of Marquette, Michael (Karen) Huebner of Green Bay, WI, Robin (Gavin) Leach of Marquette, Shayla Manitowabi Huebner (Chase Hobson) of Albuquerque, NM, and Amber (Cameron Nebel) Manitowabi Huebner of Munising; grandchildren, Morgan (Eric) Ventimeglia, Marc (Elena) Burton, Kayla and Taryn (Daniel Weber) Graham, and Thor Gurski, Brittany and Austin (Rebecca) Gauthier, Brian and Ryan (Alexandra Hamel) Huebner, Aaron (Avery Smale) and Garrett Leach; great-grandchildren, Everley, Greyson, Samuel, Jeremy, Henrik, and another due in April; sisters-in-law, Judy Helmker and Kitty Carlson; nieces, Kathie Ann Stagliano, Carol Fosco, Lois (Pierre) Ogea, Hollie (Brian) Drake, and Shellie (Jim) Cholke; nephews, Carl (Sharon) Carlson, Mark (Patrice Keskey) Carlson, Jon (Jennie) Helmker, and John Asplund.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Carl, Eleanor, and John; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Carlson.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 11 am at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Kyle Detmers, will begin at 12 pm. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will take place in Park Cemetery.
