Lee McKay Mason

Lee was born on October 24, 1948, in Marquette, to Dr. Theron T. and Alice (McKay) Mason. He was a 1966 graduate of Marquette Senior High School and then attended Northern Michigan University where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1971.

Lee married the former Kay M. Strand on August 15, 1970 in Wisconsin and they shared 53 wonderful years together.

Lee held various security jobs in the Marquette County area. He was a gentle soul and loved his family immensely, especially his grandsons. Lee enjoyed following his children and grandson’s activities and sporting events.

Lee was a sports enthusiast, loving all sports, but enjoyed following the Chicago based teams. He was a walking encyclopedia of music and an accomplished pianist, even earning the title of “piano man” throughout the years. Lee was also a damn good air guitarist! He was an animal lover, having a number of beloved pets over the years. His loved ones envision Lee in heaven playing the piano, drinking a Manhattan and watching his beloved White Sox.

Lee is survived by his wife, Kay Mason of Marquette; sons, Eric (Stacy) Mason of Woodstock, IL and Mikael (Tiffany) Mason of Marquette; grandsons, Aidan and Callan Mason of Marquette; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Theron T. and Alice McKay Mason; and his brothers, Roger and John Mason.

A celebration of Lee’s life will be held at a later date.
