Judith Claire Bartol

Judith C. Bartol

MARQUETTE, MI – Judith Bartol, age 90, formerly of Marquette, MI, and Traunik, MI died at Pomeroy Assisted Living and Memory Care in Northville, MI on March 2, 2024 after several years living with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Judy was born on August 16, 1933 in Ishpeming, MI to Ellerth and Eva Anderson. She grew up in Ishpeming and graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1951. Judy attended Northern Michigan University from 1951 to 1955, where she met her husband of 62 years, Frank R. Bartol, whom she married in 1953. Both Judy and Frank became teachers, with Judy teaching early elementary students in Iron River and Eben (now Superior Central) schools, where she taught kindergarten for many years. During her tenure in Eben schools, Judy and Frank lived in two homes in Traunik, MI, a few miles to the south. Judy loved mystery novels and the Michigan outdoors and enjoyed both downhill and cross-country skiing. Her gift for teaching young students gave her the skills to prepare her special needs son, Dan, for a somewhat more independent life at Sundara House in Marquette.

With her husband’s passing in 2015, Judy moved to Marquette to a condo that was easier to manage and close to Dan until December of 2021, when the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease required more assistance and she moved to Pomeroy Living, Northville, near her son Mark.

Judith is survived by her sons Daniel Bartol of Marquette, MI, and Mark (Kim) Bartol of Novi, MI, and two grandchildren, Isaac and Ethan.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Gosling and her husband Frank.

A casual memorial gathering for Judith will be held at the Traunik Slovenian Club Hall on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 1:00 to 4:00pm.

Individual memorial donations are requested to be sent to the Traunik Slovenian Club to the attention of: Brian Menghini, Treasurer, N2791 E-T Rd., Trenary, MI 49891.
