DELRAY, FL – Janet Elenor Gabell – April 26th 1939 – February 29, 2024.

Janet passed peacefully at VITAS hospice in Delray Beach, FL, surrounded by loved ones on February 29, 2024 after a long battle with dementia.

Janet was born to Wilho and Viano Kangas of Palmer in 1939. She lived in Palmer for most of her life surrounded by cousins. A graduate of Negaunee High School in 1958, she attended Illinois Masonic Nursing school, graduating as an RN. Being the eldest sister was one of Janet’s greatest joys in life. When you had those 3 together watch out. Janet also enjoyed crocheting and collecting angel figurines. After retirement she and her husband wintered in sunny Florida where she enjoyed many activities and made many friends. She enjoyed spending time with family and a good cup of coffee with a sweet treat. She was a member of Community Lutheran Church of Soumi, MI, and knew every song in the hymnal. She was a member of Alanon family groups for many years and developed many friends there. Janet spent most of her life as a OBGYN nurse and never lost that aura of caring towards anyone she met thru life. She talked to anyone and brought a light that will be dearly missed on this earth.

Janet leaves behind her loving husband of 64 years, Roy L Gabell, her son, Michael Gabell of Tacoma, WA, daughter Michelle Kemp of Boynton Beach, Florida. grandchildren, Amanda (Derek) Lackey of Gwinn MI, Emily (Phillip) Evans, Sam Gabell and Kara Gabell of Brandon, MS. Two sisters Lois (Dean) Cross of Holt, MI, and Nancy (Dennis) Ponozzo, of Iron River, Mi. One great grandson Owen Lackey of Gwinn, MI and former son-in-law Kenneth Kemp of Palmer, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents Wilho and Viano Kangas, brother Robert Kangas, and by her loving son Raymond.

The Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL, officiated by Pastor Tom Wickstrom. Janet will be laid to rest in Negaunee Cemetery in the family plot.
