KALKASKA, MI – Alma Marie McDowell, 85, of Kalkaska, peacefully passed away on February 25, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Alma was born on October 16, 1938, to Alfred E. and Marie E. (Pepin) Anderson in Ishpeming.
Alma graduated from Henry Ford Hospital as an RN in 1959. She worked at the Traverse City State Hospital from 1960 to 1989 when she retired.
Alma married John “Bubba” McDowell on April 8, 1989. They each brought three children to the union, Renee Creel (Kerry), Matthew Groesser (Sandy), Greg Groesser (Val), Donna Yohe (Brad), Ricky McDowell (Linda), and Scott McDowell. Alma also has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother David Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Bubba”, brother, Joseph Anderson, sister-in-law, Patricia Anderson, sister-in-law, Clarann Anderson, and infant son Mark Groesser.
A visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Kalkaska Funeral Home. An additional visitation will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at St Mary of the Woods Catholic Church followed by a Mass at 11:00am. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Father Fred Foundation or The American Lung Association.
