Margaret Delmont
Margaret Delmont
GWINN, MI – Margaret Elaine Delmont, 100, longtime Gwinn resident, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, February 15, 2024 at Eastwood Nursing Center, Negaunee, with her loving family at her side. She resided there for nearly four years and was loved by all of the Eastwood staff and other residents.
Margaret was born December 20, 1923 in Green Bay to Stephen and Walburga (Feldmeyer) Walsh and spent her childhood living on a dairy farm. Here she learned how to garden and preserve crops that were harvested, a talent she passed to future generations. As a young adult, she moved to Sturgeon Bay where she was employed at a shipyard. While there, she met Joseph Delmont, the man that eventually became her husband. They relocated to Michigan in the mid 1940’s and lived in small towns like Perkins, Arnold and Princeton. They settled in Gwinn where Joe, Margaret and their children became members of St. Anthony Catholic Church, which remained her home parish right up until her death. She led a prayerful life and attended Mass right until the end of her life.
Margaret was an avid reader and was a whiz at crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, spending countless hours alone and with the help of others completing elaborate scenes.
Margaret was devoted to her family and enjoyed summer days at camp and family celebrations wherever they occurred. The last large celebration was her very own 100th birthday party! She enjoyed her big day reacquainting with family members from near and far and it was an awesome day that is remembered fondly.
Surviving are her daughters: Linda (Michael) Chapman of Marquette and Cindy Dulany of Gwinn; daughter-in-law, Shirley Delmont; nine granddaughters, twenty great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; son, David; two sons-in-law, Roger and Randy; a great-granddaughter, Grace; two sisters, Mildred and Mary along with their spouses; and all of her brothers and sisters-in-law in the Delmont family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gwinn, with Rev. Sebastian Oppong officiating. Burial will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Tuesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the church fellowship hall. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, Salvation Army and/or Feeding America.
