Jeanette Bicigo

MARQUETTE, MI- Jeanette Louise Bicigo, age 89, of Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday, February 15, 2024, at home, in the loving, comforting care of her family.

Jeanette was born December 9, 1934, in Negaunee, a daughter of John and Jennie (Scholtus) Lahti. She was raised in Marquette and attended the Graveraet High School where she was a cheerleader. She graduated in 1952 and, like so many other young woman graduates of her time, began her working career as a telephone operator with Michigan Bell Telephone. On May 28, 1955, Jeanette was united in marriage to Bruno Bicigo. Together, the couple made their home in Marquette and Jeanette became a stay-at-home mom, raising her family. As a wife, mom, and homemaker, Jeanette’s greatest fulfillment came from spending time with family. She was loving and forgiving toward her children and grandchildren and very proud of their accomplishments. She especially enjoyed going fishing with Bruno and family picnics in the fall. Her other interests included walking, being outdoors, hunting, and swimming in the waves, knitting, sewing, doing crossword puzzles. She lived by the motto, “trust in the Lord, this too shall pass”. Jeanette was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Jeanette is survived by her children, David (Kathy) Bicigo of Freeland, Jean (Jim) Burby of Chelsea, Joe (Helen) Bicigo and Linda (Jeff) Holtz both of Marquette, Mary (David) Gourlay of Traverse City, and James (Karen Gustafson) Bicigo of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada; her grandchildren, Charles (Rebecca) Bicigo, Andrew (Katie) Bicigo, David Burby, Peter (Heather) Burby, Jessica Burby, James Burby, Steven Bicigo, Michelle Marzec, Jeffery Holtz, Amanda Holtz, Jennie (John Hill) Hall, Christina (John) Hopps II, Danielle (Brett Konkle) Gourlay, Jon (Brittany Becker) Gourlay; great-grandchildren, Bella, Sophia, Lillian, Emmett, Lennon, Madelyn, Emma H, Gosia, Genevieve, Emma B, Bruno; a sister-in-law, Marge Bicigo; brother-in-law, Frank Quinney; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno; sisters, Irene (Chuck) Wagar and Lillian (Eugene) Duer; brothers-in-law, Emil (Dorothy) Bicigo and Bob Bicigo; and sisters-in-law, Erma Quinney and Marlene Bicigo.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michael Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 28, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Rev. Greg Heikkala, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in the Parish Center. Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
