Gregory Rosten

MARQUETTE, MI- Gregory Bernhardt Rosten, age 66, longtime Marquette resident, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at UP Health System Marquette following an apparent heart attack.

Greg was born November 13, 1957, son of the late Bernhardt W. and Sadie M. (Tarvainen) Rosten. Greg grew up in Humboldt and was a graduate of Westwood High School, class of 1976.

Greg worked for CCI for a short period of time, the Northwood Supper Club, and at the River Rock Bowling in Ishpeming, a job he truly enjoyed. He also had worked for U.P. Fabricating doing various jobs. He also did lawn care, snow removal, metal scrapping, but most of all he enjoyed lending a hand to anyone who needed help.

Greg welcomed everyone with kindness, humor and love, and you would be left with a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart. He was a great companion, brother, stepfather, step grandfather, and friend to many. Greg’s life was shortened by a weak heart valve that had to be replaced. He had SISU and did everything in his power to recover and build up his strength after surgery.

He loved to walk at the dome, in his neighborhood, and around Presque Isle. He enjoyed exercise and being out and about around people. He always seemed to run into someone he knew, and he would take the time to stop and talk to them. Another hobby Greg enjoyed all his life was bowling in Ishpeming, where he made many lifelong friends. He had such a big heart where he would ignore taking care of himself in order to help someone else out. That was just the way he was, unselfish. He’d have it no other way. He was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his lifelong partner and love of his life Roswitha Fetterhoff of Marquette. His nine siblings: Colleen (Chris) Filizetti of Negaunee, Cynthia Tuominen of Blaine, MN, Pamela (Jon) Ciochetto of Marquette, Regina (Jeff) Kyllonen of Ishpeming, Jerome (Kathy) Rosten of Dayton, MN, Melanie Rosten of Marquette, Brenda (Curt) Nevala of Ishpeming, Ty (Teresa) Rosten of Negaunee and Brent (Diane) Rosten of Ishpeming, step-children: Corinna Hoffmann, Severine Fetterhoff, Lee Fetterhoff, Franklin Fetterhoff and Diane Hoffmann, numerous Step-grandchildren, including Lisa, Adam and Al, step-great grandchildren: Mikinzee, Carter, Grace, Lea, Mason and Stella, Along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, many friends and brothers and sisters in faith.
