Dorothy Elizabeth (Madosh) Gove

MARQUETTE, MI- Dorothy Elizabeth Gove, age 77, of Marquette, walked on into eternity January 30, 2024, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming, in the loving, comforting care of her family.

Born December 6, 1946, in Marquette, a daughter of Richard C. and Elsie S. (Ketchum) Madosh, Dorothy was raised in Marquette. Following graduation, Dorothy devoted herself to raising her family. Her home was always open to family and anyone who needed a place to stay. Loving and nurturing, Dorothy, in later years, also cared for her grandchildren. She was proud of her American Indian heritage and enjoyed Native American crafts, doing ink, pen, and watercolor drawings and paintings of nature scenes and animals, especially wolves.

Her hobbies and interests included participating in demolition derbies, of which she won a first place trophy, she was an excellent pool player, loved gambling at the casino, playing bingo, and attending family gatherings.

Dorothy was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.

Survivors include her children, Susan Daugherty and Katherine Daugherty both of Harvey, and Emma Ostwald of Lower Michigan; her grandchildren, Ashley Leese, Michael, Cheyenne, and Jesse Cass; her great-grandchildren, Sophia Leese, Sienna Cass, Khaleesi Cass, Arrow Cass, Birdie Cass; her siblings, Linda (Louie) Rabitaille of Harvey, Maggie (Ron) McDaniels of Marquette, Theresa (Jeff) Sharp of Little Lake, Beverly Girard of Marquette, Sara Remick of Palmer, Jackie Madosh of Palmer, and David (Leann) Madosh of Harvey; a sister-in-law, Cindy Madosh of Ishpeming; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Richard C. Madosh, Jr., Henry Madosh, Michelle Madosh Kohn, and George Madosh; grandchildren, Richard Daugherty, Nicolas Leese; brother-in-law, Craig Girard.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice and the staff of Marquette County Medical Care Facility for their compassionate and professional care of Dorothy and for the many kindnesses they extended to the family. A special thank you also to Tammy Mallett for going above and beyond her job description. Your care helped to enhance the quality of her life.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Ojibway Casino Marquette Event Center on Sunday, February 4, from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm. Near 5:00 pm, Morning Thunder will offer ceremonial drumming.

Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery on Tuesday, February 6, at 11:00 am.
