Cecelia Aikala
MARQUETTE, MI – Cecelia (Ceil), age 87 of Marquette passed away Friday, February 9 in Georgia where she spent winters at her son’s house since her beloved husband passed away in 2017.
Ceil was the oldest of five children born to Elford and Mable in Glencoe, MN. While working in Minneapolis, she met her future husband Robert (Bob) Aikala. The couple were married in October 1959. They had three sons, Craig and Steven born in MN and Mark born in Marquette.
While raising her 3 children, she worked as a secretary for a Real Estate Appraiser. After retirement, Ceil and Bob spent their winters in Florida playing bridge on a regular basis and enjoyed golfing. In Marquette they did the same along with bowling when they were younger. Ceil’s bridge group described her as a good lady who made people smile. She was an amazing cook and was told numerous times she should open her own restaurant.
Ceil is survived by her brother Jerome and sister Sharon in Glencoe, MN; and sons Steven (Johanna) of Woodstock, GA and Mark (Krysten) of Shakopee, MN. Ceil had three grandchildren (Justin, Michelle, and Katie) and three great grandchildren (Jenessa, Jalynn, and Justice).
She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Aurie and Janet; Husband Robert (Bob) Aikala, In-laws included are George and Lempi Aikala, Arnold (Lois) Aikala, Miriam (Toivo) Thompson.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will occur early summer in Marquette and will be announced. Condolences can be expressed at www.fassbenderswansonhansen.com.
