Barbara Stenburg

ROCK RIVER TOWNSHIP, MI- Barbara Mae Stenberg, age 73, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at UP Health System Marquette.

Born February 24, 1950, in Ravenna, Michigan, a daughter of Jesse and Patricia (Mankoski) Jones, Barb graduated from the Fruitport High School in 1968. On June 14, 1969, Barb was united in marriage to Gene Stenberg. The couple moved to Miami, Florida, and Barb”Ćs working career began at AT&T in Miami, where she was trained in Information Technology. The couple eventually moved to Marquette and Barb was employed with Cleveland Cliffs in their IT Department. A later career move found her in the IT Department at Marquette General Hospital where she served for 25 years, retiring in 2008. In her leisure moments, Barb enjoyed flower gardening, feeding the hummingbirds that frequented her yard, painting, crocheting, cooking and baking. She enjoyed spending time in the sun and being in the pool, traveling for both work and pleasure, fishing, and caring for her dogs. However, her greatest enjoyment and fulfillment came from spending time with her children and especially the grandkids. She will be fondly remembered for her loving, thoughtful, kind, tolerant, and caring ways.

Barb is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gene; sons, Scott Stenberg of Willow, AK and Randy (Kristen) Stenberg of Argonne, WI; former daughter-in-law, Lila (David) Patient; her grandchildren, Hailey Stenberg of Grand Rapids, Hannah (Lucas) Solka and Hayden Anderson both of Negaunee; step-mother, Donna DeCan-Pranger; a sister, Kay (Mel) Wilcoxson of Muskegon; brothers, Robert (Gay) Pranger of Coolidge, TX, Daniel (Gwen) Pranger of Cincinnati, OH; a brother-in-law, William Snyder in Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her step-father, Edward Pranger; and a sister, Sue Snyder.

A celebration of life will be held at Community Covenant Church in Carlshend, on Friday, February 16. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. A reception will follow.
