Marvin Mains

GWINN, MI- Marvin A. Mains, 95, of Gwinn, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti.

He was born April 19, 1928, in Jasper, Minnesota, a son of the late Ernest and Cora (Damman) Mai

Marvin married Darlene Hamersma in Laverne, Minnesota on March 10, 1950 and she preceded him in death on April 20, 2011.

He served in the US Air Force from 1952 through 1972 as an airplane mechanic and was a Vietnam Veteran. Following his retirement from the military, he worked in civil service at the former KI Sawyer AFB until 1988.

Marvin was a charter life member of the Gwinn VFW Post 5670. He was a life member of American Legion Post 349 and a life member of DAV Chapter 22 of Marquette.

He is survived by a daughter, Melody Willette of Marquette; a grandson, Scott Willette of Marquette; and a sister, Judy Bartu of Omaha, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings, Donald, Robert, Clayton, Marilyn and Stanley Mains and Dorothy Wiese.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Pastor James Larson officiating. Marvin’s service will be livestreamed at https://my.gather.app/remember/marvin-mains

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

Military Honors will be provided by the Little Lake American Legion. Interment will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery in the spring.
