Kimberly Brennan

MARQUETTE, MI – Kimberly Lynn Brennan, age 40, of Marquette, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, at home, in the loving care of her family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 17, 1983, in Marquette, a daughter of Joseph “Tom” and Diane (Hartman) Brennan, Kim was raised in Marquette and graduated from Marquette Senior High School, Class of 2001. She continued her education at Northern Michigan University, earning her Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice in 2005. Twice, while attending Northern, Kim traveled to South Africa to learn about the culture and criminal justice system.

Back in Marquette, Kim began her career as a juvenile probation officer by serving as a teaching assistant for two years at the Marquette Youth Home. She later was promoted to being a youth probation officer for the Marquette County Juvenile Court. Throughout the years, she took great pride in her work and being able to make a difference in the lives of the youth she served. A loyal and caring employee, she forged many long friendships with the people she was employed with and served, many of whom she considered as family. She often used her funny and sarcastic humor to disarm and lighten situations in putting people at ease. In her leisure time, Kim enjoyed watching NASCAR, attending the Daytona 500, camping, and spending time with the littlest members of her family, spending time with her sorority sisters (her “golden girls”ù), annual shopping trips, and time spent with her fur baby kitties. Christmas was especially dear to her as it brought out her festive passions of decorating for Christmas, baking, and wrapping the perfect present. Kim was a repeat winner of the Board of Light and Power annual Christmas light display.

Kim is survived by her parents, Joseph “Tom” and Diane Brennan; her sister, Danielle (Tyler) Haynes of Big Rapids; a half-brother, Brad Brennan of Kingsford; nieces and nephews, Hannah and Ella Haynes of Big Rapids and Kevin and Logan Brennan of Kingsford; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her three feline companions. Kim was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Friday, January 12, beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Micki Hupp will officiate. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception room.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice for their compassionate, professional care and for the kindnesses they extended to the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to UPAWS (Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter), 815 S. M-553, Gwinn, MI 49841 or Cancer Care of Marquette County, P.O. Box 626, Ishpeming, MI 49849.
