Kathleen (Langlois) Laituri
NEGAUNEE TWP., MI – Kathleen Ann ‘Kathi’ Laituri, 71, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, December 30, 2023, at UP Health System Bell surrounded by her family, secondary to chronic respiratory complications.
Kathi was hospitalized on December 25th after celebrating Christmas Eve with her family to cap a holiday season where, in typical fashion, she made sure everyone received their gifts.
Born April 14, 1952, in Marquette to Philip and Patricia (Catto) Langlois, Kathi grew up in Negaunee and spent all her 71 years there, graduating from Negaunee High School, Class of 1970, and attending cosmetology academy in Marquette. She married Richard Laituri on October 20, 1973, and together they raised their daughter, Tami, in Suomi location and then later in Negaunee Township.
Kathi worked for many years at the Fountain of Beauty in Marquette, as she adored working as a beautician. She had numerous other jobs to include working at the Palmer Nursing Home and various jobs in the Westwood Mall, with her favorites being the Hallmark and Candleman stores. While at the cosmetology academy, Kathi and her good friend, Nancy (Mallett) would often take extended lunches, much to the displeasure of their instructor, yet there were never any consequences, as they were class favorites. Kathi enjoyed spending time with friends attending ceramics classes, knitting beautiful baby sweaters, and decorating for all occasions and holidays. Trips with her friends to shop and lunch in Escanaba or Michigamme gave her great joy.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Laituri; mother, Patricia “Pat” Langlois of Negaunee, and currently residing at MCMCF; her daughter, Tami (T.J.) Mallett of Negaunee; brother, Keith (Francine Melotti) Langlois; grandchildren Jadan and Jyanna Grobar and their father, Mike Grobar; nephew, Adam (Sara) Langlois; nieces, Christina (Stephen Burke) Bacon and Elizabeth (Charlie Keenan) Bacon; step grandchildren: Joseph, Lily, and Olivia Mallett; and her dearest friends, Jenny (Don) Maki and Bonnie (Al) Johnson. Kathi was preceded in death by her father, Philip Langlois in 2018.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 5th from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at Koskey Funeral Home in Negaunee. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
