Frank E. Summersett
MARQUETTE, MI- Frank E. Summersett, 88, of Marquette, passed away Wednesday morning, December 20, 2023 at Trillium House in the presence of his loving family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Frank was born on June 11, 1935 in Marquette to the late Edgar and Ruth (Fairbanks) Summersett and was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1953 graduate of Graveraet High School.
A U.S. Army veteran, Frank proudly served in Company C of the 504th Parachute Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, which had the nickname of “Devils in Baggy Pants.”
During his working years, Frank was employed by the L.S. & I. Railroad, worked in sales at the former Montgomery Wards, Quality Hardware and Sault Hardware in Marquette. He also worked for the Marquette Area Public Schools System as lead mechanic until his retirement in 1998.
Frank was active for 55 years with the Hiawathaland Boy Scouts Sea Explorers. He and the Boy Scouts volunteered at the Marquette West Rotary Seafood Fest for decades and was recognized by the Rotary club with a Paul Harris Fellowship. Frank was also bestowed with the Silver Beaver Award through the Boy Scouts of America.
In his free time, Frank and his wife, Janice, were avid square dancers. In September of 2023, he found great joy in becoming an Honor Flight participant. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, William (Karen) Summersett and Jon (Melissa) Summersett, both of Marquette; six grandchildren, Kiera, Devin, Sabrina, Anders, Hildi, and Helle; a sister, Helen Allen of Marquette as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was his wife, Janice in 2019; a brother, Kenneth Summersett and brother-in-law, Joseph Allen.
The Summersett family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Messiah Lutheran Church beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service in the church at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Andrew Plocher, pastor, officiating. Spring burial will take place in the Park Cemetery. A luncheon will take place in Magnuson Hall at the church immediately following the service.
