Debra D. Saari

GWINN, MI- Debra D. “Debbie” Saari, 59, of Gwinn, passed away on Saturday afternoon, January 13, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

We honor the vibrant life of Debbie, a beacon of strength and positivity who bravely faced cancer for five years. Debbie’s world was brightened immensely by her beloved granddaughter, Isla Rose, the joy of her life. Debbie was not only a skilled and dedicated business owner, adept at handling multiple roles and responsibilities, but also served as a committed bus driver for the Gwinn school district for over twenty-five years. Debbie had a special bond with each child she met, especially those in need, always finding the good in others. At the workplace, Debbie was always buzzing with a vitality that mirrored the ceaseless energy of the Energizer Bunny.

Debbie’s legacy of unwavering positivity will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her love for life shone through her favorite pastimes, from cherishing moments with friends to basking in the summer sun at the lake, in the paddle boat or aboard the pontoon boat. Debbie was a devoted Packers enthusiast, never missing a game each week, and she cherished tuning in to Elmer Aho on the radio, a testament to her love of tradition and community. Debbie found joy in the thrill of games, celebrating a memorable win of $10,000 from a scratch-off lottery ticket, and cherished the many lively moments spent at the casino, leaving us with fond memories filled with laughter and excitement.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Bill Saari; her daughter, Lindsey (Tyler) Hattamer; granddaughter, Isla Rose Hattamer; her playful dog, Sadie, and grand-dog, Ollie; siblings, Robert (Linda) Ellman, Paula (Ray) Aird, Lorrie (Terry) Ghiringhelli, Larry Ellman, Connie (John) Peterson and Tina (Thomas) Rogers; and her many nieces and nephews. Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Elaine M. Ellman; her brother, John Ellman; her infant twin sisters, Vivian and Vicky; and her mother and father-in-law, Josephine and Paul Maki.

Her absence will be felt deeply, but the warmth of her presence remains a comforting embrace to us all.
