Cheryl Ann Hamel
CHAMPION, MI- Cheryl Ann Hamel, age 69, longtime Champion resident passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI.
Cheryl was born in Ishpeming on May 22, 1954, a daughter of the late Julianne M. (Saari) and Wallace LaMere. She was a graduate of Champion High School, Class of 1972. She married D. Paul Hamel June 23, 1972, and they owned and operated several businesses including L&H Industries and Paul Hamel Excavating. Cheryl also worked for and held positions with several other local businesses and organizations.
Cheryl enjoyed spending time with family, and cherished every moment spent with the young ones attending as many events as she could, tending to her plants, and “Checking the weather.” Cheryl also loved volunteering for several organizations throughout the community. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic.
Cheryl is survived by a daughter, Tina (Paul) Vos of Gowen, a son, Brad (Alanna) Hamel of Champion; 4 grandchildren, Andrew (Kathryn) Hamel, Arwen Hamel, Caydence and Camielle Vos, a great grandson, Sawyer Hamel, sister, Candy LaMere of Greenville, three brothers, Bob (Lynn) LaMere of Hutto, TX; Joe (Barb) LaMere of Vancouver, WA; Jerry (M.J.) LaMere of Ft Wayne, IN, sister-in-law Nancy LaMere of Greenville, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Cheryl also leaves behind a cherished extended family of in-laws
Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband Paul Hamel on March 28, 2018, brothers Ronald (Cindy) LaMere and William LaMere.
Per Cheryl’s wishes, cremation will take place with a celebration of her life taking place in late spring.
