Barbara J. Sicotte
ESCANABA, MI – Barbara J. Sicotte, 78 passed away, surrounded by loved ones, Monday evening, January 22, 2024, at Bishop Noa Home.
Barb “Barbie” as she was lovingly known as was born on April 21, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She moved to Marquette, Michigan when she was 13 years old. At 14 years old she met the love of her life, Jerry Sicotte, the two were married for 61 years, and had three children together, Steven, Kevin and Jeannie.
Barb spent the last several years at Bishop Noa Home, where Jerry never missed an evening to bring her supper, watch television, play games, facetime family, listen to music and talk about all the memories they made over the years. Barb’s family would like to thank Bishop Noa Home for all the special care they gave over the years and for loving her like family.
Barb worked several jobs throughout the years at Woolworths, The Vogue/Voguette and Super One Foods, while she enjoyed her time working, nothing brought her more joy than being a wife, mother and grandmother.
In her early years she loved to roller skate, ice skate, go bowling, watch Jerry play hockey and many trips to the casino. With her grandchildren she loved to color, play cards, watch Golden Girls, cook and sit on her back porch watching them play.
She will always be remembered for her kind heart, quick wit, infectious smile and laughter. She worried about everyone and always seemed to know when something was wrong.
She loved getting her hair and nails done and never missed a chance to put on a pot of coffee.
She is survived by her husband Jerry Sicotte; her son Steven Sicotte; her daughter Jeannie (James) Van Overloop; her grandchildren Andrew (Crystal) Sicotte, Brandon (Cara) Sicotte, Marissa Sicotte, Kevin Sicotte Jr., Amber Giddings, Jennifer (Robert) Kela, Jessica (Todd) Cheney, Janice Van Overloop (Chris Nebel); 19 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; her oldest brother Mike (Kada) Suttener; brother and sister-in-law Greg and Chuckie Sicotte; brother-in-law Tom Glispin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her son Kevin J. Sicotte; her parents, June and Gerry Voet; brothers, Tom, Dick and Terry; her mother and father-in-law Norma and Frank Sicotte; daughter-in-law Barbara Sicotte; brother and sister-in-law Roger and Verna Sicotte and sister-in-law Anita Glispin.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Monday, January 29, beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Rev. Kevin Taylor will officiate. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception room. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.
