Anthony Maki

ISHPEMING, MI- Anthony Peter ‘Tony’ Maki, 56, of Ishpeming, passed away peacefully at his home Friday afternoon, January 12, 2024 under the care of his loving family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

Tony was born November 4, 1967 in Ishpeming to Peter Maki and Vicki Turino, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1986, and was a lifelong area resident. He continued his education at the Northern Michigan University skill center, earning an Associate’s Degree in Auto Mechanics. Tony was a longtime truck driver, working locally for Tasson Distributing, Reinhart Foodservice, where he also was a salesman, Stericycle and North Country Disposal. Due to health concerns, he retired from truck driving and recently worked at the Marquette Food Co-Op in the meat department.

In his spare time, Tony loved being outdoors, especially at the family camp on the middle branch of the Escanaba River. He loved hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and riding dirt bikes.

Surviving are his loving wife of over 31 years, Tracy (Michelson) Maki of Ishpeming; his son, Alex Maki of Gwinn; his mother, Vicki (John) Haupt of Ishpeming; father-in-law, Ronald ‘Red’ Michelson; his sister, Amy Maki; sister-in-law, Kerry Bandle; step-brother, John ‘JA’ Haupt; nieces and nephews: Kiana and Vincent Maki, and Abby and Emily Bandle; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Maki; a brother, Vince Maki; mother-in-law, Mary Michelson; brother-in-law, Scott Michelson; his maternal grandparents, Beryl Turino and Leah (Leo) Filizetti; and paternal grandparents, Frank (Dorothy) Maki.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 20th at Koskey Funeral Home in Negaunee. The family will also greet relatives and friends immediately following the celebration for lunch at the St. Paul School Gymnasium.
