William Lammi

MIDWAY LOCATION, MI-Willliam Herman Lammi, 81, of Midway Location, passed away peacefully Friday morning, December 15, 2023 at the DJ Jacobetti Michigan Veterans Facility, where had resided for the last 18 months.

Bill was born March 24, 1942 in Palmer to Eino and Viola (Maki) Lammi, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1960, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1966. Following his service to his country, he worked at the Mather B and retired from the Empire Mine.

Mr. Lammi was a life member of VA Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW, as well as being a member of the Richmond Township Community Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed being at camp and was an avid hunter and fisherman, later in life he enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino.

Surviving are his sons, Robert (Michelle) Lammi of Ishpeming Township and Pete (Julie) Stanaway of Ishpeming; his daughters: Charlene Metcalf of Erwin, TN, Lisa Winiger of Clarkston, and Dawn Atherton of Gwinn; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Donna (John Carbonado) Lammi of Midway Location; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Casey Winiger; and his siblings: Arlene, Ronald, Robert and Karen.

Bill’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff in the memory care unit at Jacobetti for their loving and compassionate care provided.

Honoring Bill’s wishes, private graveside services will be held at Bakkala Cemetery. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so in Bill’s memory to the Memory Care Unit at DJ Jacobetti Michigan Veterans Facility.
