Lori Ann Zyburt

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI- Lori Ann Zyburt, age 60, of Chocolay Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at home, in the loving, comforting care of her family and Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Lori was born on October 12, 1963, to Daniel “Squeak” and Roberta “Bobbi” (O’Neill) Zorza, in Marquette, and was raised in the Marquette area. In 1981 after graduating from Gwinn High School, Lori began her career with Wahlstrom’s Restaurant in Harvey, which spanned over the course of more than 30 years. More recently, she became the proud small business owner and operator of The Shipping Shop in Marquette. Lori was well known for her contagious smile, warmth and welcoming nature by all of the customers she served.

On August 20, 1992, Lori was united in marriage to Bennett “Ben” Zyburt and together the couple established their home in Chocolay Township where they raised their two sons, which were her pride and joy. Lori was a voracious reader and could be found during the warm summer months soaking up the sun with a book in hand. She also enjoyed planting and working in her garden as well as volunteering at the Women’s Center and Room at the Inn. Known by many as the ultimate hostess, Lori’s greatest love was spending time with her family, often entertaining her large extended family during the holidays and for special occasions. She was also a true animal lover and cherished the many four-legged canines she had over the years.

Lori is survived by her husband of 31 years, Ben; her sons, Cole (Kirstin) Zyburt of Negaunee and Justin (Shelby) Zyburt of Marquette; her siblings, Brian (Bonnie) Zorza and Jean (Sid) Washburn of Skandia, Cathy (Corey) Zorza of Gwinn, and Dan (Amy) Zorza of Marquette; her mother-in-law, Joan Zyburt; and in-laws, Michele, Jeff, Greg, Patrice, Gretchen (Graham), Heidi (Steven), Nancy and Myra; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and canine companions, Cleo and Luna. Lori was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, Ernest Zyburt; her brother, Andrew Zorza; and brother-in-law, Peter Zyburt.

In accordance with Lori’s wishes, a private family service celebrating her life will be held.
