Donald Hangen

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Donald Homer Hangen passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023 in Scottsdale, Arizona at the age of 93.

Donald’s life journey was marked by significant achievements and contributions. He is a graduate of UCLA, where he excelled in track and proudly belonged to the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He furthered his education with an MBA at Stanford Business School and earned a PhD from the University of Southern California.

His professional journey led him to Northern Michigan University, where he was the inaugural dean of the business school from 1969-1976, and later to Corning, New York, where he served with great distinction as the president of Corning Community College from 1976 to 1994.

Beyond his career, Donald had a profound love for nature, capturing its beauty through his passion for photography. His fondness for animals and a deep-seated curiosity led him to explore various corners of the world through travel accompanied by his wife of 56 years, Patricia.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia, and their three children, Jan Walker of Conifer, Colorado; Mark Hangen of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Don Hangen of Stow, Massachusetts; as well as 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Donald will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the lasting impact he had on the lives of those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and a rich tapestry of memories that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Donald Homer Hangen will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and gratitude.

As a former distinguished member of the Air Force, he will find his final resting place in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. May he rest in eternal peace.
