Ruby Minelli

GWINN, MI- Ruby May Minelli, 98, longtime Gwinn area resident, passed away peacefully Friday morning, October 27, 2023 at the Eastwood Nursing Center.

Ruby was born April 24, 1925 in Republic Township to John and Ellen (Peterson) Hooper, and was raised in Negaunee, graduating from Negaunee High School, Class of 1943.

She married Joseph Minelli on May 10, 1952, and together they made their home in Gwinn. She was a loving and devoted homemaker to her family.

Mrs. Minelli was a member of Gwinn United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and was a longtime volunteer for the Gwinn/Sawyer Chamber of Commerce. In her spare time, she loved gardening, which she actively maintained even into her 90’s. Ruby was an accomplished photographer, winning various amateur awards over the years. She loved traveling, and visited Western and Eastern Europe, Turkey and China where she walked a portion of the Great Wall.

Surviving are her brothers, Jack (Kathy) Hooper and Roger Hooper; two sisters, Elaine Kaiser and Katy Askeland; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including locally: Scott and Larry Rasmussen, and Joe Minelli. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Minelli in 1977; and her sister, Elwell Rasmussen.

Honoring Ruby’s wishes, graveside services will be held next year at the Gwinn Cemetery.
