Marian Kivisto

Marian was born March 23, 1935 in Williamsburg, MI to Norman and Rose Bacon, and attended Central Lake Public Schools. She married Fred Hastings, Jr. in 1953, and together they lived in Manistique. She moved to Negaunee in 1973 and married Robert ‘Dutchie’ Kivisto the same year. Marian worked locally as a sales clerk at both Woolworth’s and the Negaunee IGA.

Marian was a longtime foster mother, fostering over 20 children over several years. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards including cribbage and pinochle, enjoyed BINGO, quilting and embroidery, and loved to read. Above all, Marian loved being with her beloved family and dogs.

Surviving are her two daughters, Cheryl Cameron and Diane Hastings, both of Negaunee; grandson, Leo Cameron; great-grandchildren: Jaydin, Kylee and Ashton; brother, Robert Bacon; her son-in-law, Fred Makinen; sister-in-law, Marie Bacon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert ‘Dutchie’ Kivisto in 2008; a daughter, Sheila Makinen; her brothers, James and Thomas Bacon; son-in-law, Leo Cameron, II; and a nephew, Gordon Bacon.

Honoring Marian’s wishes, no public services will be held. If you wish to make a donation in Marian’s memory please consider UPAWS, UP Home Health & Hospice, the Negaunee Senior Center, or the Negaunee Eagles.
