George Paul LeMaire
MARQUETTE, MI – George Paul LeMaire, age 71, of Marquette, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Mission Point of Ishpeming.
Born November 1, 1952, in Marquette, a son of Edward and Dolores LeMaire, he was raised in Marquette and attended the local schools. In 1971, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and upon his honorable discharge as a Marine Corporal, returned to Marquette. George was employed as a custodian with the Marquette Area Public Schools, worked at the Ojibwa Casino, and was a valued team member at Hoover’s Tree Service. In his youth he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and cherished his time at deer camp with his family. Later in life he enjoyed going to the casino, playing BINGO, and growing vegetable gardens. George was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
George is survived by his longtime companion, Candy DesJardins of Marquette; two step-children, Alisha (Troy) Autio-Wiitala of Ishpeming and Christopher (Tami Riley) Autio of Ishpeming; two children, Brent LeMaire and Shane LeMaire both of Marquette; two grandchildren; his siblings, Carmen (Mike) Stoffregan of Fond du Lac, WI, Jo-Ann Anderson of Fond du Lac, WI, Shirl (John) Keating of Marquette, and Darryl LeMaire of Wisconsin; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Theda Ritari; and brothers-in-law, Kenny Anderson and Robert Ritari.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Thursday, November 16, beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Rev. Kevin Taylor will officiate and veterans honors will be accorded.
