Eva Marie (Maki) Bayles

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI- Eva Marie (Maki) Bayles, 74, of Humboldt Township, passed away at Marquette County Medical Care Facility on November 2nd, 2023.

Eva was born in Laurium, MI on November 23rd, 1948, the daughter of Sarah “Katy” and John E. Maki. She grew up on a farm in Jacobsville, MI, and graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1966. Eva loved farm life, the cows, cats, and exploring the woods. She married William “Bill” Bayles in 1967, and they lived in lower Michigan for a short time before moving to Humboldt Township. Eva was a devoted mother to three sons who she loved very much. She was a full-time wife and mother until her sons graduated, and then Eva went to work at Marquette County Medical Care Facility in laundry which she enjoyed for 13 years. Eva was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include her husband Bill of nearly 56 years; 3 sons: Edward of Ishpeming, MI, John of Green Bay, WI, and David (Ketti) of Crystal Falls, MI; grandchildren Josephine and Thomas Bayles; sister Betty Ahonen of Atlantic Mine; brother Edward Maki of Hancock; brother-in-law James Bayles of Laurium; sisters-in-law Betty (Dennis) Anderson of Lake Linden and Barbara King of Redmond, WA; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Eva was preceded in death by her parents, sister Esther Rhodes, sister-in-law Edith Maki, brother-in-law Jerry Ahonen, and brother-in-law Jack King.

Per Eva’s wishes, private services will be held at Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home, officiated by Ronald Jouppe of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock, of which Eva was a member. Interment will be at the Humboldt Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter.
