Ann Marie (Smith) Retaskie

MARQUETTE, MI – Ann Marie Retaskie, age 86, of Marquette, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023, at Trillium House in the loving care of her family.

Ann was born on July 26, 1937, in Marquette, to James G. and Roberta (Ritchie) Smith. She leaves behind a hell of a lot of stuff her sons won’t know what to do with! But, she also leaves behind many wonderful memories of camp on Lake Superior, jogging on the beach, boating, swimming, fishing, catching minnows, feeding the ducks, bonfires, smores, fireworks, the talking deer, singing fish, and all the bands!! Also, the candy bar tree. But most of all, they will remember her standing in the window, waving at them when they left, trips to Las Vegas, Disney, Bahamas, and Florida. She worked for 32 years at AT and T. She loved traveling to new places, trying new foods, and most of all beating the men at cribbage!! She married Richard Retaskie in 1957 and they were married almost 50 years when he passed away.

Ann is survived by her two sons, Richard Dean Retaskie and Gregory Shawn (Jennifer Tavernier) Retaskie; her only grandson, Jesse and her nine dollies, Jolene, Shawntel, Brandi, Amanda, Katie, Lacey, and Heather, Autumn and Amber; her 17 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lola and Sandy Retaskie, and Lorraine Smith; brother-in-law, Michael (Kim) Retaskie many nieces and nephews, especially Marty and Maryann Marshall who took her around the world, Paris, Rome, Italy, Alaska, Canada, and the southern, eastern, and western Caribbean, with many interesting adventures. Also surviving are her good friends, Carmen and Terry Weigold. Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Retaskie; and all her siblings, Elsie (Martin) Marshall, Lillian (Elmo) Pinard, Marilyn Betts, Jim, George, Robert, and Therese Smith.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Tuesday, November 14, beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Rev. Greg Heikkala will officiate.
