NEGAUNEE, MI- Timothy Michael King, 60, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away peacefully at home following a hard-fought battle with cancer on Sunday evening, October 15, 2023 while in the care of his loving family, friends, UP Home Health and Hospice and Dr. Michael Grossman.
Tim was born November 1, 1962 in Iron Mountain to loving parents, John and Pauline (Hulce) King and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1982 where he was a talented athlete. The summer after graduation he enlisted in the United States Marines, proudly serving until his honorable discharge from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina on Christmas Day, 1985.
Tim married Joan Stanaway on August 11, 1984, and together they raised their family in Negaunee. He was a dedicated employee with the City of Negaunee, retiring in 2019 as the DPW Foreman. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Negaunee Fire Department and a founding member of the Renee Thomas Memorial Tournament. Tim enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and spending time at camp with family and friends. He was an avid softball player, continuing to play even after his cancer diagnosis. A devoted father and grandfather, most important to him was spending time with family and following his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and extracurriculars.
Surviving are his loving wife of 39 years, Joan King; sons, Jeremy (Nicole) and Tim (Liz) King, both of Negaunee; daughter, Erin Renee King of Negaunee; beloved grandchildren: Ellis, Marcella and Charlee King, and Hadley and Peyton King; brothers, John King of Negaunee Township and John (Anna) Wormwood of Howards Grove, WI; sister, Lorraine (Mike) Finnila of Negaunee; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandson, Beau Boosta Eugene King.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 21st from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 1:00 pm at Mitchell Methodist Church, Negaunee Campus (Marquette Hope) with Rev. Christopher Hintz officiating. Graveside military honors accorded by the United States Marines will immediately follow at the Negaunee Cemetery. A luncheon will then be held at the Negaunee Elks. Pallbearers will be Michael, John and Jesse Finnila, Randy Betts, Greg Kantola and Mike Willey. Jacob Yoho, Tim’s Godson, will serve as honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Tim’s memory to the Negaunee Elks Lodge Veterans Program.
Tim’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff in Unit 8A at the University of Michigan Hospital for their incredible care.
