Ruth M. Gaviglio
FORT WORTH, TX- Ruth (Murr) Gaviglio, 95, of Fort Worth, Texas and former Denver, CO and Flint, MI resident, passed away peacefully Monday, October 2, 2023 at Heart to Heart Hospice in Fort Worth.
Ruth was born December 5, 1927 in Rochester, Minnesota to Herbert and Fanny (Cramer) Murr, graduated from Graveraet High School in Marquette and then attended Northern Michigan University. Her education was interrupted for many years to raise her family.
She and her family relocated to Madrid, Spain for a year, which was a rich and wonderfully rewarding experience for the entire family.
Ruth was a member of Court Street Methodist Church in Flint, where she sang in the choir, often as a soloist. Her love of music and vocal talents afforded her many opportunities to sing in public, as a member of The Madrigal Singers troupe and as a soloist. She received accolades for her performances frequently. A representative piece in the Flint Journal regarding her solo performance of Pergolesi“s “Salve Regina” read: “One of Flint’s most tasteful, sensitive singers, Ruth Gaviglio, put across the finely spun lyricism of the work well. The support she had from the string orchestra was equal to her compassionate interpretation.” She was also a sustaining member of the St. Cecilia Society in Flint.
As her children left home for college or relocated to other states, she completed her teaching certificate work at the University of Michigan, Flint Branch. Coincidently, this was the same year and place her son began college, of which he was always proud. Aside from being a loving and devoted homemaker, she taught for many years in the Flint area public schools.
After retirement, she and husband of 71 years, Donald relocated to Denver to be near family, where she enjoyed golfing with her friends, hiking in the Colorado mountains, and a picnic by a clear mountain lake. Eventually relocating to Ft. Worth to be close to family, she cherished each moment she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are her son, Michael ‘Mick’ (Maureen); three daughters: Anne (Drew), Kathryn ‘Katy’ (Steve) and Nancy (David); grandchildren: Ryan, Erin, Aaron, Shana, Adrienne, Michael, Julia and Carly; and great-grandchildren: Dominic, Grayson, Rowen, Iona, Cape, Emma and Nora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Donald Gaviglio on October 11, 2018; and her grandson, Andrew ‘Drew’ on August 18, 2016.
Honoring Ruth’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will take place with her husband at the Negaunee Cemetery.
