ESCANABA, MI – Pamela Jane Metivier, 65, of Escanaba passed away on Friday, September 29 at UP Health System in Marquette after suffering a heart attack. She was surrounded by her loving family on the night of a harvest moon as she entered eternal life.

Born October 26, 1957 in Escanaba, Michigan, Pamela was the sixth child of the late Les and Mary Lark. Pam, along with her seven siblings, grew up on Ogden Avenue near Ludington Park. She was a spirited soul with a witty personality and genuine sense of humor. Her sweet and friendly nature extended to everyone around her with her contagious smile and uncanny ability to talk to anyone.

Pamela had three wonderful sons that she raised together with her husband Bob. She earned her teaching degree at Northern Michigan University and spent twenty years in Sault Ste Marie, MI as the director of the gifted and talented program at JKL Bahweting School. She was blessed to work with many exceptional students that she cared for deeply. Pam was also an understanding and enthusiastic friend and supporter of the Native American community.

After she retired, Pam and her husband Bob moved home to Escanaba to be closer to family. In retirement she dedicated her time to substitute teaching, volunteering, artistic pursuits, and being the best Grandma ever. She made her mark on the GFWC Escanaba Woman’s Club as Vice President and participated on many of the club’s committees.

Pam was an exceptionally gifted artist and musician and was always creating; she painted, sewed, crafted and composed. She had a beautiful voice and loved playing guitar and singing for others. Her friends and community all across the Upper Peninsula gave her great inspiration in all of her artistic endeavors. She was an avid festival goer and managed to attend all of her favorite music festivals this past summer.

Pamela is survived by her devoted husband of fifty years, Bob Metivier; sons, Sahl (Katy) Metivier, Obadiah Metivier and Nicholas (Michele Larson) Metivier; grandchildren, Shania Pore, Stella and Victor Metivier; siblings, Susan Lark Clifton, David (Mary) Lark, Meadow (Mark) Erickson, Samuel (Jay) Lark, Deborah (Curtis Marder) Lark, Bill (Connie) Lark, Cindy (David) Anthony. She also leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Les and Mary Lark and infant brother Matthew.

Pamela’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the ICU nurses, doctors and team members at UP Health System for their kind and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family and will be directed to Bay Cliff Health Camp and Wheelin’ Sportsmen nonprofit organizations.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Escanaba Yacht Club.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m., a light luncheon is to follow.
