Robert L. “Bob” Skewis

Bob was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on May 12, 1927, a son of the late Herbert and Mary Lena (Willey) Skewis. Bob was a 1945 graduate of Ishpeming High School and joined the U.S. Army in September 1945 during World War II.

Bob worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for 40 years, retiring as a storekeeper. Bob was one who was always willing to help others, he cared for his mother and siblings.

Bob enjoyed going to the monthly union retirees’ meetings. He was a supporter and attended many of the Ishpeming Alumni events throughout the years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gwen, five brothers; Herbert, William, Wallace, Henry, and Richard Skewis, and two sisters; Carrie Maki, and Frances Tasson. He is survived by nieces and nephews.

Bob’s family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home where his memorial service will be held at 11:00 am with Pastor Bob Freysinger to officiate.

Interment will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the U.P. Funeral Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Ishpeming High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund 319 E. Division St. Ishpeming, MI 49849 in memory of Bob.
