Lisa Ann Martin

Born April 1, 1965, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, daughter of Willard Martin and Mary (Wilson) Martin, Lisa was raised in Marquette. In 1982 and 1983 she attended the Stratton Mountain Ski School in Vermont. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1983. She continued her education at the University of Utah where she received her baccalaureate degree and distinguished herself by skiing on their National Championship Ski Team. An accomplished skier, Lisa was named Midwest Skier of the Year while on the United States Ski Team and served as an instructor for a time in Vail, Colorado. She later earned her Master’s Degree from New York University. She continued her educational pursuits at the New York Conservatory for the Arts. For 35 years, Lisa was employed as a teacher in the New York City Public Schools and retired this year. During her summers, while not teaching, Lisa returned to Marquette to hike Sugar Loaf, swim in Lake Superior and walk the neighborhood dogs. She was a talented artist, enjoyed swimming, downhill skiing, was an avid reader and loved animals. She embraced life and lived it to the fullest.

Lisa is survived by her father and stepmother, Willard and Kristine Martin of Marquette; her sisters, Holly (John) Woods, Amanda Martin and Gretchen (Matthew Stanley) Martin; nieces, Kaitlyn Woods and Madelyn Woods, and nephew, Luke Woods; an aunt, Sharon (Bill) Marshall and cousins, Kim (Doug) Fitts, Dillon Fitts, Derek (Haili) Marshall, David (Satara) Crouse, Artemus and Stellan Crouse.

Lisa was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Martin and aunt, Anne Crouse.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral Home on Friday, October 13, beginning at 12:30 pm. until the time of the service at 1:30 pm. Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
