MARQUETTE, MI – Deborah Jo Aho, 70, of Marquette, died Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at her home.
She was born February 23, 1953, in Hancock, MI, a daughter of the late Edwin A. and Ellen H. (Heikkinen) Aho. She was 1971 graduate of Ontonagon High School.
Following graduation, she enlisted in the US Army and served 10 years as a recruiter in Milwaukee, WI. She then studied political science at NMU and went to work for congressman, Bob Davis in Washington DC. She also worked at Finlandia University in the financial aid department, and most recently worked primarily as a commercial and residential cleaner.
In her free time, Deb enjoyed spending time at the family estate in Toivola.
Deborah is survived by a niece and nephews, Paul Pfeifer (Shelley) of Livonia, MI, Teresa Lisowski (Ron) of St. Augustine Florida, Brian Pfeifer of Jacksonville, FL, and Mark Carter of Arlington, TX; special cousin, Ginny Diroff of Hancock, MI; numerous cousins; several great-nieces & nephews; and her dog, Scooter and bird, Griffin. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Marylyn Pfeifer and Margaret “Cookie” Aho.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Andrew Plocher officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service in the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Heikkinen Estate.
