Alex Bruce Letvenow

MARQUETTE, MI – Alex Bruce Letvenow, age 85, of Marquette, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

Alex was born July 2, 1938, in Highland Park, Michigan, a son of Alex and Florence (Pyykkonen) Letvenow. He was raised in Detroit with the family later relocating to the Copper Country where he graduated from the Jeffers High School in Painesdale. He enlisted in the U.S. Army reserves and upon completion of his obligation, moved back to the Detroit area where he began a long career in the automotive industry. For over 25 years, Alex was employed with Detroit Body Products. Returning to the Upper Peninsula, Alex opened the State Surplus Warehouse in Marquette, retiring in 2001.

In his spare time, Alex was a true Detroit sports fan, in addition to being one of the most knowledgeable. He was an avid enthusiast of the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, and Pistons teams.

Alex is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy Ann (Isaacson) Letvenow, of Marquette, whom he married June 6, 1959; sons, Michael Letvenow of Terlingua, TX and Steven Letvenow of Marquette; daughters, Dr. Mary Letvenow of East Lansing and Jennifer Letvenow of Marquette; his grandchildren, Maggie and John Foley of East Lansing; a sister, Jane (David) Naasko of Eaton Rapids; brother-in-law, Roy (Erma) Isaacson of Avon Park, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents.

Honoring the wishes of the family, private services will be held.
