Ronald E. Manning

MARQUETTE, MI – Ronald Eugene Manning, age 96, of Marquette, entered eternal life on Monday, July 31, 2023.
He was born on February 19, 1927, in Warrens, WI, son of the late Lucille (Mogg) Manning and Malcolm Manning. In the 1940s, he moved to Marquette from Munising with his family. He worked for his father’s business, Manning Heating Company, before volunteering for the Navy in 1944. Ron served on a dry dock in Guam during World War II and returned to Marquette following his honorable discharge after the war. He met his wife, Marlene, at a local roller rink, they married in 1951 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marquette.
Ron worked several jobs before beginning his career as a route salesman for Bunny Bread, where he worked from 1957 until he retired in 1989. After retirement, he worked with Marlene in her business, The Drapery Den, until they closed in the mid-’90s so they could play golf in Texas during the winter and spend summers at the family cottage on Farmer Lake.
Ron was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing cards with his family, and watching golf, Tigers and Packers games on TV.
Ronald was preceded in death by Marlene, his wife of 70 years, his parents and his brothers, Leonard, Glenn, and infant brother, Russell.

He is survived by daughters, Diane (Steven) Pellinen and Judy (Michael) Vonck; son, Dean (Mary) Manning; brother-in-law, Paul (Ronnee) Dionne, sister-in-law, Sally Dionne; grandchildren, Jennifer (Fran) Sevegney, Daniel (Melissa) Pellinen, Sarah (Joel) Mendelin, Kristin (Paul) Kerns, Beth (Brandon) Ballard, Amy Manning, and Brian Manning; also 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Manning family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, August 21st at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m., in the funeral home with Brandon Morey officiating. Burial will take place in the Park Cemetery.
His family would like to thank the staff at the Jacobetti Veterans Home for providing excellent care over the past six years, and to the volunteers with No Veteran Dies Alone for assisting the family in staying by Ron’s side during his last week.
