MARQUETTE, MI – Pamela Lynn “Pam” Burkman, age 73, of Marquette, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023, at UP Health System – Marquette.
Born December 21, 1949, in Lansing, Michigan, a daughter of George William and Patricia Ann (Nardi) Burkman, Pam was raised primarily in the Upper Peninsula, including Iron River and Marquette. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and continued her education at Northern Michigan University and through the Gale Institute. Throughout the years, Pam was a homemaker, executive assistant, and accountant who resided and was employed in San Antonio, Texas, Montgomery, Alabama, Canada, Europe, Memphis, Tennessee, McMinnville, Tennessee, Panama City, Florida, Wichita Falls, Texas, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Milwaukee and Hudson, Wisconsin. She relocated back to Marquette in 2006. No matter where she traveled, worked, or vacationed, Pam always had a smile for everyone.
In 1968, Pam was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club representing Marquette County in the Miss Michigan Pageant and held many offices in the Officers Wives Club while her former husband served in the US Air Force. While residing in Wichita Falls, Texas, she served on the museum board of directors and served as secretary-treasurer on the welcome committee.
Her hobbies and interests included cooking gourmet, baking, flowers, decorating, music, piano music, and bowling. She was a fan of the Silver Fox, Charlie Rich and especially his 1977 album “Rollin’ With the Flow”. Pam was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, numerous Corvette clubs across the country, the Zipper Club at UP Health System, and St. Peter Cathedral.
Pam considered members of the Marquette City Fire Department to be her adopted children.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Austin Lee Weston, Rachael Weston, and Josh Weston; two sister-in-laws, Corinina Burkman and Sherry LeBoeuf; her uncle, Francis Nardi; special aunt, Nancy Hewitt; aunt, Theresa Leivo; special niece, Tanya Burkman; niece, Jacque Aulston; niece, Ashley Burkman; nephews, Eric Burkman, Lee Burkman, Dustin Burkman; numerous cousins and special friends, Patricia and Clair Sawyer.
Pam was preceded in death by her son, Jamison Michael Weston in 2011; her parents, George and Patricia Burkman; paternal grandparents, Oscar Frank and Lydia Marie Burkman; maternal grandparents, Bruno and Concetta Nadri; brothers, Dennis William Burkman, Michael Lee Burkman, and Richard Lee Burkman.
The family has chosen to honor Pam’s memory with a private celebration of her life at a later date.
