Joyce (Korpi) Peterson
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI – Joyce Marilyn (Korpi) Peterson, 86, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Monday morning, July 31, 2023, at her home.
Joyce was born February 26, 1937 in Ishpeming, to Hannes and Jennie (Lahde) Korpi and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1955. She was employed for many years as a sales associate at The Vogue and The Voguette in the Marquette Mall, and for a short time as a miner for CCI.
Joyce was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. She was an amazing decorator who enjoyed adorning her home for different holidays and seasons and planting her flowers outside. She was quite the fisherman in her day, and went on some beautiful trips with her companion Clem Anderson to Alaska and all around Lake Superior. She and Clem have hosted countless dinner parties together, where he would be the chef and she made the house and dinner table perfectly put together. She loved quiet times playing Sudoku in her “nest,” as she called her TV room. And don’t get in between her and the TV on Sundays and Monday night when she watched every NFL team she could. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family and friends, and loved making the many trips to New England with Clem to spend time with her two grandsons and family.
Surviving is her companion of over 30 years, Clem Anderson; her son, Michael (Tammy) Peterson of Little Suamico, WI; her daughter, Crystal (Keith Bousquet) Miller of Worcester, MA; two grandsons, Sean (Victoria Soucy) Miller of Newton, NH and Seth (Sarah Johnson) of West Boylston, MA; two sisters: Sally Marjonen of Princeton and Jeanne (Gary Vallier) Soyring of Gwinn; brother, Jacob Korpi of Wayne, MI; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edwin Peterson, Jr; an infant daughter, Kaye Marie Peterson; a sister and her husband, Violet and Clarence Rivers; a brother and his wife, Eino and Valerie Korpi; two brothers-in-law, Arnold Marjonen and Ivan Soyring, and a sister-in-law, Judy Korpi.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 5th from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at Community Lutheran Church in Suomi. A luncheon will be held in the church hall immediately following. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
