Grace Wurster

MARQUETTE, MI – Grace Hall Wurster, 99 1/2, of Marquette, died peacefully at Marquette County Medical Care Facility on August 19, 2023. Grace was born on February 17, 1924, to John T. and Mabel (Yelland) Hall in Kearsarge, MI. Being the youngest of seven children, Grace held a special place in the hearts of her brother and five sisters. She graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1942 and then went to work at the Ypsilanti Post Office as an assistant to the Post Master.

Grace loved to dance and met Captain Roland E. Wurster, the love of her life, at a square dance on February 7, 1943. They were married on October 17, 1943, in Ann Arbor, MI.

In 1946, Grace and her husband opened Rolly’s Landscape Service on Morgan Road, south of Ann Arbor, and later together owned and operated three other locations; The Garden Gate in Ann Arbor, Timbercrest Resort, Garden Center and Landscaping in Naubinway, MI, and Timbercrest Garden Center and Landscaping in Marquette. Grace enjoyed serving others as a volunteer at Marquette General Hospital for 20 years and she was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette. Her passions in life were her family, friends, reading, writing, plants and flowers, and painting.

Grace is survived by her children, David J. (Cheryl) Wurster of Marquette, Diane (Ron) White of Saline, MI, Nancy (Brian) Peterson of Marquette and Alice (Bill) Ehn of Dexter, MI; nine grandchildren, Kathryn (Will) Weycker, Karen (Jim) Glandon, Ryan (April) White, Andrew (Tera Sky) White, Tammy (Steve) Trammell, Barry Peterson, Megan (Zach) Spratling, Lisa (Ken) Haggitt and Eric (Abigail) Ehn; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Besides her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Roland Wurster, on February 2, 2008; her son, Barry Roland Wurster, on August 21, 1969; and her six siblings.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services with her daughter, Rev. Diane White, officiating. Grace’s service will be livestreamed at https://my.gather.app/remember/grace-wurster.

A light social reception will immediately follow the service in the funeral home.

Grace’s family is grateful for the loving care Grace received at Marquette County Medical Care Facility and for the wonderful assistance of Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.
