GWINN, MI – David L. King, 84, of Gwinn, passed away on Friday afternoon, August 4, 2023, surrounded by his family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice at Michigan Veterans Home D.J. Jacobetti.
David was born on March 4, 1939 in Gwinn, Michigan, to Lena Armatti King and Julius King. He attended Gwinn schools and graduated high school in 1957. David entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served for four years.
After his Air Force duties, he worked as a civil servant for the Department of Defense for over 30 years at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base.
During his lifetime, David enjoyed outdoor activities of hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and golfing. In in his retirement he was employed at Red Fox Golf Course for many years in grounds keeping and cooking hot dogs for tournaments.
Surviving are his brothers, Paul (Rosie) King of Gwinn and James Bartley (Charlotte) King of Marquette; nieces and nephews, Marc, Tony, David, and John King, Stacey King, Tracey Elmblad, and Carrie Boettcher, also surviving are 12 great- nieces and nephews and one great-great-niece and four great-great-nephews.
The King family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, August 14 beginning at 10 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn, until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12 noon in the church with the Rev. Sebastian Oppong officiating. Burial will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery. A luncheon will immediately follow the Mass in the church hall.
