Ward Williams

ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, MI – Ward R. Williams, age 85, of 315 Lawrence Ave. Ishpeming, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2023, at UP Health System Bell in Ishpeming.

Ward was born in Ishpeming on November 25, 1937, a son of the late Bertha (Kumpula) and John A. Williams. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1956. Ward went on to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps, prior to enrolling at MTU, where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. Ward worked as an Electrical Engineer for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. for 25 years, with time spent at the Empire & Tilden Mines along with the Central Offices in Ishpeming.

Ward was a Staff Sgt with the Michigan National Guard, serving for 15 years, mainly with the Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare defense division. He loved the history of the Upper Peninsula, going for walks with his dog in the woods, reading books, music and playing the guitar, the NFL especially the Green Bay Packers. Ward will be dearly missed by his beloved Golden Retriever “Lady”. He will be remembered as one of the most wonderful, kind and softhearted souls by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rosemary V. Williams of Ishpeming Twp., daughter, Teresa (Greg) Hoffman of Bellville, IL; son, Michael (Debbie) Williams of Mission, TX, grandson, John Hoffman of Bellville, IL.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalind Nardi.

Cremation has taken place. A private interment will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
